My husband served in the Army National Guard for 15 years. He was stationed in Ft. Drum, New York, St. Augustine, Florida, Deland, Florida and Starke, Florida. He deployed 5 times to Iraq, Texas, Korea, and Washington D.C. He missed many many things in life including watching his oldest son’s birth and childhood. This, combined with us getting pregnant with his second son, led to him ETS’ing (meaning he didn’t reenlist) from the Army in January of 2011. It was a difficult decision. We got to take a break from the anxiety of a looming deployment or long separation, and for that, I am eternally grateful. Now he is reenlisting and going to OCS (Officer Candidate School) and will be serving as an officer. I am so incredibly proud of my husband and the sacrifices he makes for us and for his country.
