In just a few hours, we will be on our road trip!!!
I absolutely can NOT wait to get going. It has been an interesting couple of days getting ready for this trip let me tell you. At my last cheerleading competition, my team was once again the smallest team in our division (10 cheerleaders total and all of the other 5 teams had 16-28 cheerleaders). We came in 5th out of 6, but what was most important to me was that we had our 7th performance in a row with zero deductions! It was super awesome!! My last practice with the team was yesterday, and I brought mini cupcakes and we basically sat around, talked, and they played with a bit of stunting. That’s about it. I gave the owner a hug on my way out, and checked something off my “To Do” list.
In the meantime, my husband began suffering from intense pain in his jaw on Saturday. He suffered through Sunday with lots of Advil and ice packs. This is something he’s been getting off and on since he was a child. His doctor was NOT happy we are leaving today, and she wanted to do a CAT scan to try and find out what is causing this, but it is what it is. She gave him a prescription for the same antibiotic as last time (which worked), so we’re keeping our fingers crossed. As of last night, he said the pain was basically gone. Hallelujah! After his doctor appointment, and after I dropped off my daughter to my parents (she is riding out to graduation with them), we had to go pick up his squad car (in the shop to have the radio fixed) and drop it off at the station (per department regulation it had to be there since we are going out of state for an extended period of time). Then, I finally had to start packing…
Once again: Hi, my name is Amy and I’m a procrastinator. *sigh* I got my suitcase out (which seemed incredibly small for a 9 day trip considering it is a carry-on size suitcase), and managed to fit everything (I hope) I would need by way of clothes and shoes. I am very proud of myself because I limited myself to just 1 pair of flip flops and 1 pair of dress shoes (plus the tennis shoes I will be wearing). Since we are going to be spending the majority of our time of much colder climates, I had to pack things that take up more space like jeans and long sleeve shirts. No sweaters—not enough room. I even got my straightener and my curling iron in it as well as my bag of basic toiletries. What did not make it in the suitcase was my coat, makeup box, small bag with my brush and stuff in it, and my “fun” bag that holds 3 books, my iPad, and my charger cords. I have my travel clothes laid out so that I can change as soon as I get home, and I think I’m all set.
I have a box that I’m bringing home with me so that we can put all of our travel food in it (in an effort to keep things centralized). I am hoping I can get off work earlier than my normal 3:30, but we will have to wait and see on that. We should be on the road by 4:00pm. We have a stop planned in San Antonio on our way out to Phoenix, and after graduation, we will be stopping in Four Corners, Colorado Springs, Mt. Rushmore, and St. Louis before heading home. I love road trips, and I’m so excited to be getting away. Fingers crossed my 10 year old doesn’t act a fool and my teenagers stay nice. This is our first road trip since our little guy became potty trained, so it is definitely going to be an adventure.
Just in case you hear crickets on hear for a bit, I will be home May 1st. Can’t wait to share some pictures and stories of this trip!
