Another Step Forward

My dissertation committee has officially approved my dissertation! My chair has sent it forward for Academic Quality Review (AQR). My reviewer now has 10 days to review my document and provide feedback and/or approve it…the likelihood of that…

Last time it took me 12 weeks to get through AQR for my proposal, which is the first 3 chapters. In theory since I have only added 2 chapters, this should go faster right?!

As is typical for me, I’ve looked at the rest of the process that awaits me. After I get AQR approval, I have to defend my dissertation to my committee. I already have my PowerPoint done for that (even though I’d much rather use Prezi than PowerPoint). As long as my committee approves my defense, I will receive my D-60. After that, my document undergoes a Form and Format check in order to get my D-70. It is at this point that the dean of doctoral studies will receive my dissertation. When he approves it, he will award my D-80. After that it heads to publication review. Once I pass that review, I am all set for graduation!!!

In theory (I will be glad when it’s just reality and not theory), I should be able to defend before Christmas. I have to defend before Valentine’s Day in order to walk for graduation in April. If I defend before Christmas, I should be on track to have every document and every step completed before April and receive my credentials/diploma without any delay.

And then…well…then I don’t know. I’m hoping to apply for an online adjunct teaching position with a college in order to make some extra money. Especially since my student loans (which will be over $100,000 when I graduate) will start to come due for payment 6 months after I graduate. I have a feeling it’s going to be like making another car payment, which is…well…just sad and depressing. So I’m not going to think about that.

Instead, I’m going to focus on the light at the end of the tunnel getting closer and closer and accomplishing a goal that seemed so out of reach just a few years ago.
