Well Prom was a huge success! It was the best event we have ever had. The venue was beautiful, the kids were well-behaved, the chaperones showed up, and everyone seemed very pleased. The next week we hosted powder puff, and it was hysterical to watch the guys cheer. The seniors won (as they should), and no one got hurt=success. We are now in the Senior Final exam week(ish), and things are gearing up for graduation. Just 22 days to go for my students. They are so excited and scared all at the same time. I remember that feeling.
I’m going to be showing my seniors the DVD “The Last Lecture” by Randy Pausch as my last lesson to my students. It is so poignant and exactly what I hope they will take away from my classroom. I have high hopes for my students. This is my largest class of seniors entering the military, and they span all branches. I have 3 students ready to redeploy within the next 3 months. 2 that are in-theater for another 5 months. 1 that just arrived boots on the ground, and 6 slated to head off within the next month or so.
Speaking of deployments, my brother-in-law is heading to Trashcanistan in about 3 weeks. I can feel my SIL’s heart breaking all the way across the country. It is their 2nd deployment. They have 3 kids under the age of 10. Their youngest, and only girl, tried to crawl into her daddy’s bag when he started packing this week. It just rips my heart out. I’m going to do what I can and adopt him and a few of his buddies for care packages. At least that’s something I know about and can make a difference with. I definitely won’t let my BIL feel abadoned by everyone else in the family if I can help it.
On other news, we are headed to court on Monday in the latest stepson saga. God help us, because I’m not sure how much more of this we can take. Ok big girl panties on, and here we go!
